Governance lacking in SOA

A survey revealed on Monday that 80% of respondents said their organisation is at significant risk of deploying services without effective governance, according to Information Week.

Survey results, presented by SOA Forum, also showed 88% of respondents acknowledge insufficient SOA governance, and 85% of companies rely on manual reviews for achieving architectural governance during their design and development stages.

The issue of SOA governance has taken higher importance, as companies are lashing new Web services to older legacy software. As a natural extension of IT governance, SOA governance ensures business processes are adhered to so online applications perform as expected.

US credit squeeze shows risks

The recent credit squeeze in the US provided a timely reminder of unexpected financial risks that could hit the banking sector, reports Bangkok Post.

This is particularly pertinent as the Bank of Thailand and regulators around the world prepare for the transition to Basel II, a set of upgraded capital adequacy standards for banks.

Most areas of banking operations will need to deal with new rules for process and governance changes, IT systems and data upgrades and strategy reviews. The complexities of cross-border regulation will increase with differing interpretations and implementation timetables.

Electronic discovery a legal challenge

A recent survey, underwritten by Oc Business Services' CaseData Division, called "Dawn of the Discovery-Ready Enterprise", found 92% of attorneys admitted that their company's programme is vulnerable when it comes to electronically-stored-information (ESI) and preparedness for electronic discovery, according to The Metro Corporate Council.

The survey takes a look at nine critical challenges corporate and law firm attorneys are grappling with in order to deal with the growing tide of electronic discovery.

Over 100 surveys were completed by legal professionals highly experienced in legal discovery and records management.
