EMC shines in 4Q

EMC reported fourth-quarter 2008 revenue of $4.02 billion (R40.6 billion), an increase of 8% sequentially and 5% year over year which represents an all-time EMC record for quarterly revenue, reports Albawaba.

Fourth-quarter GAAP net income was $288 million (R2.92 billion) or $0.14 (R1.40) per diluted share, which includes a $0.10 (R1.01) restructuring charge.

Fourth-quarter non-GAAP net income was $646.8 million (R6.6 billion) or $0.32 (R3.25) per diluted share, 7% higher compared with the previous year's period.

LeftHand's new storage solution

LeftHand Networks has released an entry-level storage area network (SAN) solution designed to improve performance and reduce storage cost within virtualised server environments for mid-sized businesses, states eChannel Line.

The SAS Starter SAN simplifies the process of creating, accessing and managing shared storage resources. The product is designed to help customers deploy their first virtualisation product.

The solution automatically balances data volumes across all disk drives, network connections and processors. In this way, it is designed to avoid the system performance bottlenecks that can occur when server virtualisation increases the number of required connections to a SAN.

MultiPlan wins with Copan

MultiPlan has successfully deployed Copan Systems' storage solution for its data backup and recovery infrastructure, says Data Storage Connection.

This scalable implementation will allow MultiPlan to standardise and consolidate their storage solution as it continues to grow, while saving the company nearly $1 million (R10.1 million) over three years.

"When operating in the healthcare services industry, it is essential to have technology in place that is easy to deploy, configure and manage, so we can quickly respond to customers' needs and save on resource costs," says MultiPlan IT senior vice-president Keith Bush.
