Apple releases dev tools

Apple has unveiled the tools and technologies that will allow independent software developers to create and sell programs for the iPhone and iPod touch, says Mac World.

Game developers far and wide are clamouring to make games for the device - everything from classic arcade retreads to totally unique games designed from the ground up for the iPhone's unique interface.

Applications for the iPhone will be built on a Mac using a new version of Xcode, available in a beta version already as a part of Apple's new iPhone Developer Program.

Samsung patents gaming phone

It looks like Samsung is developing an innovative gaming phone - a recent patent application shows off a new twist-screen design incorporated into a standard clamshell handset, says Tech Radar.

The Samsung mobile features a screen that is separate from the actual shell of the phone and can be twisted into becoming a gaming-style joypad.

The screen swivels out and clips into place using a hinge. Clipping the screen into place automatically reveals joypad buttons on the handset.

Combat jacket simulates being shot

The 3rd Space vest delivers up to 5lbs of force to the torso via eight pneumatic impact cells linked to tiny air pistons - four on the front of the body and four on the back - which inflate at different positions and speed according to the action being simulated in the game, says Telegraph.co.uk.

It is on sale for £129 bundled with two games including Call of Duty II. The jacket is available in black, grey camouflage and pink.

At present it is only compatible with certain PC games, such as Unreal Tournament, Halflife 2, Medal of Airborne, Quake 4 and Doom 3.
