The ASUS Eee PC was officially released in Taiwan last week amid great fanfare and tremendous user response.
More than 300 reporters attended the global launch event, which witnessed the official launch of this groundbreaking notebook. Just like the Wii of gaming consoles and the iPod of MP3s, the Eee PC is becoming synonymous with the Internet.
Sales figures since the release have been astounding, with 200 pieces snapped up in 20 minutes on Taiwan`s shopping channel, ETTV Shopping - averaging an Eee PC sold every two seconds.
Other sales channels have also been bombarded with orders, like Yahoo, which started sales at 17:00, and ending sales three-and-a-half minutes later at 17:03:30. That`s 50 Eee PCs in just 210 seconds - averaging one Eee PC sold every 4.2 seconds.
Taiwanese 3C Company Tsann Kuen reported sales of 99 pieces of Eee PCs in 30 minsutes; while PC Home Online also reported sales of more than 200 Eee PCs shortly after it was publicly available.
