JSE-listed IT specialist Faritec has donated a computer lab to the Mthatha SOS Children's Village.
The project follows a pilot implementation at the SOS Children's Village, in Ennerdale. The value of Faritec's investments with the SOS Children's Villages has now exceeded R1.5 million, says the company.
Last week, the company launched the computer centre to the 500 children supported by the organisation. Faritec has undertaken to train the youth leaders of the villages.
The centre has 40 computers and Faritec partner, Verizon Business, has committed to provide Internet access, as well as network connectivity between Ennerdale, Mthatha, and the SOS Children's Village head office, in Randburg.
Other sponsors which have partnered with Faritec on the Mthatha project include: Microsoft, which donated all the software and licences required; TCM, which contributed 10 desktops; and IBM, which donated a KidSmart unit plus Maths and English educational software.
The initiative forms part of Faritec's corporate social investment programme. The company has committed to a long-term partnership with SOS Children's Villages, which will see more computer centres being rolled out in the future, says Faritec.
