2005 looks set to be Europe`s "year of mobility" with the region leading the world in the race for wireless connectivity, says market research company, International Data Corporation (IDC).
According to IDC, there are already 25 000 WiFi hotspots in operation across Europe. This figure is predicted to grow to around 110 000 sites by 2008.
"2005 looks set to be another breakthrough year for WiFi in Europe with technology transforming laptop PCs into highly-mobile, multi-purpose entertainment devices," comments Christian Morales, Intel GM for the EMEA region.
With the rising availability of WiFi networks across Europe, IDC predicts the notebook PC market will experience year-on-year growth between 19.9% and 23.2% in 2005 in the EMEA region.
"The introduction of notebook PCs with next-generation Intel Centrino mobile technology to be released imminently will deliver added benefits for wireless users and is likely to generate increased demand and further growth in this sector," says Morales.
