Interest from wholesale and retail group Massmart has provided thin client distributor NCSolutions with an entry into the retail and SME markets.

Established in November, NCSolutions is the local distributor for US-headquartered nComputing.

While previously focused on establishing a reseller channel to take its thin client solutions to the business market, NCSolutions MD Sean Owen-Jones has welcomed the break into the retail space.

"The Dion chain contacted us as a possible supplier for its new Dion-Wired store. From there, we got attention from its holding company Massmart and are in negotiations to enter some of its other outlets," he explains.

The Massmart Group also owns Game and Makro, as well as several building and food outlets. NCSolutions' products appeared on the shelves of the first Dion-Wired store when it opened in Centurion, Pretoria last week.

The company has secured orders from educational institutions, libraries, call centres and companies including Eskom and Softline. Owen-Jones says he is also interested in the greater African market.

"It is easier to do business in the rest of Africa and interest at this stage is high. We expect to open a Zambia office quite soon. The relationship with Massmart could also help us as its Game group has stores outside our borders," he explains.
