The Lean Six Sigma approach to business has been gaining traction in SA, for its ability to streamline business processes. On 10 and 11 June at the Sandton Sun, ITWeb will host its first Lean Six Sigma Conference.

Lean Six Sigma comes from a combination of Lean manufacturing and the Six Sigma system. Sadiq Malik, director of business development for BCT Global, will address the advantage of Lean Six Sigma over using either Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma.

More information about the ITWeb Lean Six Sigma Conference, which takes place on 10-11 June at the Sandton Sun, is available online here.

Six Sigma originated at Motorola in the mid-1980s and is a way of measuring quality. It aims to reduce defects (anything causing customer dissatisfaction).

Lean manufacturing, sometimes just called “lean”, originated at Toyota as a means to reduce inefficiencies in the production process. Both were geared to optimise efficiency, and Malik will discuss how the two complement each other.

Tilla van der Walt, director of Novel Idea, will explore the business case for Lean Six Sigma, and how to get top management buy-in.

Richard Aldous, head of sales and marketing for Rethink, will discuss the different deployment models and the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Other key topics include developing a Lean Six Sigma training and certification programme, effectively integrating the Lean Six Sigma philosophy into an organisational culture, and using 'voice of the customer' methods to improve Lean Six Sigma initiatives. Key speakers include experts from Motorola, Telkom, Absa, Honeywell, Eskom, Aspen Pharmacare, Nedbank and Merchants.
