Siemens IT Solutions and Services has landed a two-year extension to its contract to support and maintain Medscheme's IT services until 2010.
In 2001, the IT solutions provider landed a large contract to service about 2 000 Medscheme users.
Kai Lange-Stalinski, account executive at Siemens IT Solutions and Services, says the deal entails all Medscheme's desktop solutions, as well as the entire ecosystem environment, and first-line troubleshooting.
"We have achieved over 99% (complaint resolution)", he says, adding that Siemens has also managed to resolve about 60% of all IT-related problems within half a hour.
This, in his opinion, is what led to the contract being extended.
Lange-Stalinski did not want to divulge the value of the Medscheme deal, but did say it was being considered a "spearhead project" for Siemens in SA.
Zunaid Mayet, divisional MD at Siemens IT Solutions and Services, says what started out as a general outsourcing agreement for full voice and IT, has now evolved into an IT service, support and maintenance role.
To this end, Siemens IT Solutions has trained up 50 existing and new employees in specialised areas like broadcast engineering and SAP.
