Dimension Data subsidiary Internet Solutions (IS) is to overhaul its hosting environment, using green technology.
Greg Montjoie, hosting business unit manager, says this process should take around three years on the IT side.
"We are seeing a significant increase in the demand for our hosting and data centre services as a result of the power failures. This means that we have several infrastructure roll-out plans for the coming years. All new roll-outs will use green technology. But - at the same time - we will be working on overhauling our existing infrastructure. This should be finished in about three years," he explains.
Changing its generators to more green technology will take around six to eight years, as the lifecycle is longer.
According to Montjoie, the data centre space deployed in the last 12 months is about equal to that installed in the previous seven years.
"Enterprise hosting is here, no doubt about it. Our budget for infrastructure spend, just in the hosting business unit, is upwards of R1 million," he concludes.
