Incoming EMC country manager Gerhard van der Merwe plans to revitalise the company`s strategy in Africa.
Van der Merwe takes over from retiring chief executive Frank Touwen.
"We have what we call the 'Best 2009` strategy. Our vision for this is to double our presence in the EMEA region by then."
According to Van der Merwe, the company will focus its efforts on creating and solidifying its presence in the East African enterprise market. "We are building partnerships in the area and we may even consider implementing a local office with one of our partners in East Africa."
The company has begun a restructuring process in SA and Van der Merwe says this will continue. "We see that the enterprise and commercial spaces are potential growth areas in SA and our restructuring will help us target these business areas."
He says EMC`s South African arm will also start developing and growing its channel partners. "We are hoping to deliver more products and training opportunities to the market."
Says Touwen: "As EMC now moves into a new phase of development, this is an appropriate time to hand over the reins and to pursue my personal interests. I will be available to colleagues and clients throughout December to assist with any business issues."
