Learner licence bumper crop on eNatis

November is a busy period for learner licence applications, according to statistics from the Tasima Consortium.

The consortium says learner licence authorisations on the electronic National Traffic Information System (eNatis) peaked on 21 November, when 3 680 such transactions were recorded - "the highest number for a single day since the inception of the system".

The total number of transactions for the month was 12 841 282, reflecting a month-on-month decrease of 4.89% compared to October, when 13 501 516 transactions were recorded.

Tasima spokesman Phillip van der Merwe says the drop reflects the decrease in demand traditionally experienced towards the end of the year. System availability in November was 100%, "as has been the case for many months now".

During November, the total transaction breakdown was 74 380 learner licence authorisations, 161 219 driving licence card orders, 92 165 vehicle record introductions, 293 689 vehicle registrations and 823 422 vehicle licensing transactions. In addition, 96 406 reports were executed on the system. These reports are utilised for, among others, financial reconciliations and audits.

A total of 4 084 158 transactions were performed on other computer systems interfaced to eNatis - such as those of the SA Police Service, vehicle manufacturers, banks and insurance companies. Users of the eNatis applications at registering authorities, testing stations and provincial authorities performed 8 757 124 transactions.

The Johannesburg user group once again performed the most transactions (799 195), followed by the City of Cape Town (615 191), Pretoria (564 508), Durban (307 247) and Port Elizabeth (175 687).

With 96 693 transactions, Mercedes Benz SA was the most active non-governmental entity using a system-to-system interface with the eNatis, followed by Volkswagen SA (60 846), Toyota SA (53 294), General Motors SA (45 904) and TransUnion HPI (35 390).
