The Nepad eAfrica Commission will support the African ICT Achievers programme, instituted by ICT research and consulting house ForgeAhead.

The commission has agreed to co-ordinate its efforts, through digital inclusion, with the corporate social investment programme ForgeAhead has implemented as part of the Achievers programme.

Dorothy Haggard, sales and marketing director of ForgeAhead, says this is a significant step for the profile of the Achievers programme, which aims to highlight ICT innovation and achievement across the continent.

"The company is delighted to be working so closely with the Nepad eAfrica Commission. Together, we believe we can have a far more significant impact than we do alone," she says.

The goals of the eAfrica Commission and the Achievers programme are well aligned, says Haggard. "That is why it makes sense that we work with Nepad to effect a greater impact in the area of upliftment."

She says the commission`s support will help encourage African governments to champion ICT and implement new strategies with regard to bridging the digital divide. "This can only promote the creation of connected communities where all Africans can gain access to technology."

November sees the African ICT Awards programme host a 'by invitation only` African ICT Achievers Leaders Summit, which will be held on 16 November, at the Sandton Convention Centre, in Johannesburg; and the Annual African ICT Achievers Awards banquet, which will be held at the same venue on the evening of 17 November.
