Bradley Hopkinson, Microsoft SA's former regional director of original equipment manufacturers (OEM) for the Middle East and Africa region, will join Simeka BSG.
In an announcement, Simeka BSG said Hopkinson had been appointed to its senior management team as group executive of operations. In this position, Hopkinson will provide support to CEO Mohammed Varachia, said Simeka BSG.
Hopkinson is a chartered accountant with 10 years' experience in the IT sector in SA and the Middle East.
Prior to his stint at Microsoft, Hopkinson worked for HP as its local financial director, country GM of its Personal Systems Group (PSG) and regional GM of PSG for HP Middle East.
Executive decisions
Hopkinson is the fourth high-profile employee to leave the local operations since the beginning of the year.
In April, Microsoft SA developer and platform group director Danny Naidoo announced he was leaving after five years with the company. At the time, Naidoo said he would take a sabbatical before deciding what he wanted to do next.
Last month, Microsoft SA Windows group manager Jonathan Hatchuel immigrated to Australia to take up a position as business development manager of the Microsoft division of EMC Australia.
In January, Microsoft SA OEM manager Goona Sagaren Udayan resigned days before the launch of Vista in SA. Hopkinson was appointed as his short-term stand-in, but subsequently resigned.
In July, Microsoft COO Heather Third said the executive moves were a consequence of the end of the company's fiscal year.
"It is kind of the time of year when people tend to move on. We've just had our end-of-fiscal-year and we tend to promote and move people around at this time, so it tends to be the time people make career moves as well," she explained.
