Department of Home Affairs CIO Kgabo Hlahla has resigned and will leave the department at the end of the month to start his own business from 1 November.

"It is time for me to leave. I have registered a company and I want to start growing it and venture into business."

Hlahla`s new company, Thutlwa Leadership Development Services, will focus on organisational development and change management. The venture is not IT-related, he says.

"I actually submitted my resignation on 30 August, but the minister [of home affairs] asked me to stay on for an extra two months."

Hlahla, who has held the position of CIO at the department since September 2004, says his successor has not yet been identified and the department would start a search for a candidate outside of the organisation.

"At the moment, I`m busy with a handover report for my successor."
