The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications has requested public comment on the ICASA Amendment Bill to aid its deliberations during the final term of this year.
The Bill is the enabling and guiding legislation for the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA), which has now become the overriding telecommunications, broadcasting and postal regulator for the country.
The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee has suspended its deliberations on the Electronic Communications Bill (formerly the Convergence Bill) because of the late arrival of the ICASA Amendment Bill, which is referred to in the former legislation.
No deadline for submissions has been given, but Parliament, which is in recess, resumes on 10 October and the deliberations are expected to begin soon after.
The draft ICASA Amendment Bill can be found at the Department of Communications Web site, or at the Parliamentary Monitoring Group Web site.
