Arivia puts exec on 'extended leave`

South African State-owned IT group arivia.kom has placed the head of its outsourcing division on "extended leave", a senior company official confirmed yesterday.

The group`s COO, Hugo Knoetze, says outsourcing managing executive Zakes Mnisi was put on extended leave until further notice, but refuses to be drawn on details.

"I am not in a position to elaborate, but he will be on extended leave until our internal thought processes have been finalised about the way forward."

Knoetze refuses to comment on the circumstances surrounding the decision, and would also not confirm whether Mnisi may be facing any form of internal investigation or disciplinary action.

Mnisi has been with arivia.kom since its inception in January 2001, and has held numerous positions within the group. He was appointed as head of outsourcing in March this year. Prior to this, he was managing executive of the group`s infrastructure unit. The company launched its outsourcing business unit in 2003.

A company source says an announcement about who would take over Mnisi`s position in the interim has not yet been made, but adds that it would most likely be someone from within the organisation.

"There are a number of strong people within the group who would be qualified to take up the position, but nothing has been decided yet."

The source would also not shed light on whether Mnisi`s extended leave resulted from an amicable agreement between him and arivia.kom.
