A group of ICT multinationals in SA, represented by the American Chamber of Commerce, has submitted a joint proposal to the committee set up to discuss challenges posed to foreign companies by the ICT empowerment charter.
The committee comprises CEOs from a number of multinationals, representatives from the empowerment charter working group, the chamber, the Black IT Forum (BITF) and the SA Communications Forum (SACF).
Dali Mpofu, working group chairman, says the working group will now have to examine the document. The BITF and SACF, representing local industry views, will also be given a chance to respond.
"The document is a joint submission, which deals with a range of impediments posed to multinationals by the charter, including the challenges they face in terms of selling equity. Scenarios facing individual companies are also included in the proposal," he says.
Mpofu says the BITF and SACF will comment once they have had a chance to examine the document. Once consensus has been reached, the working group and the chamber will issue a joint statement.
The fourth draft of the charter, which will give more detail on how the multinationals will comply with equity requirements, is expected to be released at the end of the month, Mpofu says.
